The Age of Fish

This short documentary film explores the main events which affected fish throughout their evolutionary history during the Paleozoic Era. The journey begins very soon after the Cambrian Explosion - the earliest fish being small, jawless and quite unassuming bottom dwellers. Through the Ordovician and Silurian fish become more diverse, morphologically robust and, critically, the development of jaws allowed them to become very effective predators and rise towards the top of food chains in marine and freshwater environments. The Devonian time period, often referred to as the Age of the Fish, was a particular high point in terms of fish diversity on Earth.
