The growing urbanization of India and the likelihood of 60% of India’s population staying in urban agglomerates in coming 20-30 years time will be contributing over 75% of the GDP. In this context and as is being pursued by Government of India and apparent in its Smart City Guidelines, where these urban agglomerates is being seen as true engines of growth and where GIS has an important and critical role to play. The use of GIS can provide better e-services assisting in better proficiency in the work. It can help in aligning, linking and analyzing the wide data which can be used to provide geobased services to the citizens. The webinar ‘GIS for Smart Cities’ will talk about how GIS is going to play a major role in smart cities unfolding its wide spectrum of applications. The webinar will highlight and cover examples of smart cities in the world and how GIS has contributed in creating a modern city. In this webinar you will learn: How GIS can help in planning, designing, execution and management of various functions of a smart city Will explain the concepts, the opportunities are wide-ranging with examples Speaker Rajesh C Mathur, Advisor, ESRI India About the speaker Mr. Rajesh C. Mathur is presently Advisor NIIT GIS Ltd. At his current role, he is responsible for spearheading the growth of GIS deployment in India. Prior to that, he has held the position of Vice Chairman of the Board and President of the company. Mr. Mathur is an Electrical Engineer from IIT Delhi. He has attended general management program conducted by Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. Mr. Mathur has been associated with the IT industry both in India and overseas for more than 30 years. He has handled assignments in General Management, Marketing, Corporate Planning and International Operations. Prior to his current assignment he has worked with Wipro, IDM and DCM Data Systems in India and USA. He is currently the President of Association of Geospatial Industries (AGI). He is also the Chairman, FICCI Committee on Geospatial Technologies. He has also served as the President, Indian Society of Geomatics.
