ABBA - Hovas Vittne (1981) on original vinyl

ABBA - Hovas Vittne (1981) on original vinyl Original example of one of the two holy grails of Abba collecting. Pressing originally in only 200 copies and given away at Stig Anderson's birthday party. “Hovas Vittne” is a unique song recorded by ABBA in January 1981 as a tribute to their manager, Stig Anderson, on his 50th birthday. The song’s title is a playful pun on “Jehovah’s Witness,” referencing Hova, the small Swedish town where Stig was born. It humorously celebrates his life and personality, including references to his dog Lucas, his love for sausages, and his habit of raising musical keys mid-song—a feature incorporated into the track itself. The song was written collaboratively by all four ABBA members (Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad) along with sound engineer Michael B. Tretow and designer Rune Söderqvist. It was released as a limited-edition 12-inch red vinyl single, with only 200 copies produced, making it one of ABBA’s most collectible records. The B-side featured “Tivedshambo,” an instrumental version of one of Stig’s earliest compositions. To honor the occasion, ABBA performed the song in their iconic “Waterloo” costumes during a special video recording at Berns Theatre in Stockholm. The lighthearted and personal nature of “Hovas Vittne” makes it a standout piece in ABBA’s discography, though it was never commercially released. #abba #rarerecords #vinyl #hovasvittne
