If you want to make your own 3D character in Blender, this tutorial is for you. I have made various videos about character modeling back in 2022, but now it is time to teach the basics that will help you make better 3D characters in Blender. The first thing you should do is to add a reference image. This image is useful because it can easily define the proportions of the character. You should place the image in front orthographic mode and here is how it will look like. I have drawn a simple sketch of the character, so you can draw your own sketch or import any reference image. First of all, there are many ways to model characters in Blender. You can add multiple cubes that will be used as a simple 3D sketch that will be modified according to the reference image. This is a good starting point if you want a fast way to model a character with multiple models. But because those are just some basic cubes that are scaled and rotated. This video has five stages of 3D character development: 1. Adding reference image 2. Choosing the technique 3. Character modeling 4. Modeling the body 5. Adding arms and legs You can also make the desired character by sculpting, simply by adding a cube with subdivision surface, but in order to make a more organic look of the character, you should set levels viewport to 3 or 4. In the previous video, I was talking about sculpting, in order to modify the model by dragging, use G on your keyboard. Now you can move any part of the model and define the shape of the character. After a long break from character modeling videos, this video is about teaching the basics and making characters that are easier to animate, apply textures and use for various projects.
