The Iranian president, a hardliner who was touted as a potential successor to the country's supreme leader, was returning from neighbouring Azerbaijan when the helicopter carrying him and his foreign minister suffered a hard landing. President Ebrahim Raisi was instrumental in the recent crackdown against protesters demanding freedom for women in Iran. Even as news of Raisi's fate remains uncertain, critics of the regime aren't mincing their words. Redmond Shannon reports on the frantic search effort for Iran's head of state. A deadly boat collision at a lake near Kingston, Ont., last night has left three people in their 20s dead and five others in hospital, rattling the community around Bobs Lake this long weekend. Several OPP units, including the emergency response teams and K9 units, were dispatched to the scene of the crash and police are investigating the cause, according to officials. Lexy Benedict has more on what we know so far. In New Caledonia, French forces have launched a major operation to restore order after violent clashes and civil unrest killed at least six people. New Caledonia is a French territory situated in the South Pacific, off Australia's eastern coastline. The civil unrest erupted in the archipelago's capital, and French forces are trying to regain control of a road linking Noumea to the main international airport. French military planes have been landing at Canadian airports during the weekend operation. Heidi Petracek reports on the volatile situation.
