It's always fun and challenging to do these reconstructions when the subject matter is ABBA. "Waterloo" was their first single as a band and won the real Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, and in 2005 was chosen as the best song in the competition's history. Some have claimed that it's even better than "Ja Ja Ding Dong". I've always loved the simple song with a twist formula, and the twist in this one is the E major over D second chord in the verse. It makes a great hook and also sets up the E major over G# that reappears in the pre-chorus beautifully. Anyway, they must have done something right because the single sold 6 million copies at a time when there was a lot of quality music out there. I played an amazing ES-175 to ES-295 conversion done by Gord Miller and belonging to the great guitarist and guitar lover Brent Cooper, plus the usual assortment of Custom Shop and vintage Gibson and Fender Guitars. The trusty Seagull 12 string also makes an appearance. Once again the Bad Apple Applexi did the heavy lifting and the Union Tube & Transistor provided some texture on the melody guitar.
