Breaking the barriers: people with disabilities in Armenia's labour market

Life in Armenia is changing, and for the better. After a disastrous earthquake and the end of Soviet communism, living standards for most people are steadily improving. But for people with disabilities, it's a different story. During the Soviet period, people with disabilities had some chances to work inside a closed system of "social enterprises." But now they have to compete with every other job-seeker in the labour market and are often shut out; they are truly "invisible" in the workforce. But the ILO's new pilot project in Armenia is changing that and at the same time, breaking down old stereotypes about disability and the barriers that keep people with disabilities out of the workforce.
