The pancreas is a vital organ in our body and plays a central role in digestion and blood sugar regulation. On the one hand, it produces digestive enzymes that break down the vital proteins, carbohydrates and fats in the intestine. On the other hand, it also produces hormones such as insulin and glucagon, which control blood sugar levels. If a disease of the organ is suspected, e.g. pancreatitis, the two enzymes #lipase and #amylase come into play. They are important laboratory parameters in the diagnosis of pancreatic diseases.
