This was primarily due to hasty and frankly misguided acquisitions like AOL and Yahoo which the company wasn’t able to turn around. To make matters worse, Verizon overleveraged itself within the telecom industry itself thanks to an aggressive takeover attempt of Verizon Wireless. Verizon is a prime example of why a company is never “too big to fail”. Given enough bad choices, every company will eventually fall regardless of their market dominance.
