We can set-up a rule to automatically delete an email in Gmail in two stages. Firstly we need to identify the email, and then we need to tell Gmail what to do with that email. STEP 1 To do this, I’ll start by moving my mouse to the Gmail search bar And I’ll click onto the search options icon which opens a panel with some further search options STEP 2 If you want to delete a specific email, the easiest way to do this is to add the email address of the sender into the ‘From’ box in this panel You can type the email in directly if you know it STEP 3 To confirm that this is the email address we want to use to set up the delete rule, click on the ‘Create filter’ option STEP 4 This takes me to a new page where I need to specify what I want to happen with any emails that match the email address I entered Choose the ‘Delete it’ option. By choosing this we are asking Gmail to automatically delete any emails received from the email address we entered. STEP 5 At the bottom of this page there is one further question to consider. This option asks if we want to apply this rule to a number of existing STEP 6 Once you are happy with your choices, you can turn on the delete rule by clicking the large blue ‘Create filter’ button. And Gmail confirms that the filter was created.
