It is only the second front-wheel-drive hatchback of the Soviet Union, after the Lada Samara, but work on the Aleko actually started before the VAZ engineers took the Samara to the drawing board. The 2141 had almost nothing in common with its predecessor and featured a MacPherson strut front suspension, torsion-crank rear suspension, and a rack-and-pinion steering. Designing the 2141 began early in the 1970's. Moskvitch was looking for a new, futuristic design that would replace the more dated looking current models. They wanted to make sure that this design could work well into the future and even enlisted the help of world leading car designers at the time to try and create something that would grab everyone's attention. The Aleko became a vision of both Soviet and contemporary designers dreams. It was the first time that the Soviet automotive industry used the aid of aerodynamics as a benefit to design and driving. This Aleko is in remarkable condition. A strong running and easy to drive vehicle that offers plenty of room. Looks that are both unique and futuristic for the time. Mechanically this 2141 is great. Easy to start and easy to maintain as well. A clean and neat interior provides ample comfort and style. All of the buttons and features work wonderfully and as designed.
