In the late 1970s, the legendary rock band The Kinks shifted gears towards arena rock. Doing so meant cutting back on their Englishness -- and their concept albums -- which landed them several Top 40 hits and reenergized the (largely American) fanbase. Was it a sell out? Or is it all good? This video, the fifth in the series looking at all the Kinks studio albums, investigates by splitting the six albums of the period into three thematic couplets. It also answers Pete Townshend of the Who's claim that he never heard a Kinks song he didn't like. Are there no bad Kinks songs? This is the fifth in the All the Kinks Eras & Albums video series. Robert's Record Corner appears here every other Monday, at least.
