Finding the key to academic success through a new lenses | Emma Krantz | TEDxStOlafCollege

Incorporating some of the core values seen in successful matriarchal tribes into education could help students with disabilities and students of other marginalized identities to receive the help, support, and equitable opportunities that they need in order to achieve their dreams. To make it known to the students who are battling self-doubt and doubt from others that they are more than enough to achieve their dreams and that they don’t have to fit the mold in order to succeed. Emma Krantz is a senior at St. Olaf College. She was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, and moved to the snowy midwest to study science and pre-health. She is a pre-med, biology major with a concentration in race and ethnic studies. Emma has been an individual with disabilities her entire life. She first began working within the disability community during her junior year of high school when she became a certified junior volunteer ski instructor for the National Sports Center for the Disabled. Working within the disability community transcended into her life after high school as she has been a Peer Leader for the Student Support Services for Students with Disabilities, SSSD, at St. Olaf. Emma is also a certified EMT who has been working as a volunteer EMT at St. Olaf and recently became the new Executive Schedule Coordinator for the SOEMTs. Emma hopes to continue her work within the disability community and continue to be an advocate for disability awareness and inclusion. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
