Yeah so it’s been a weird 24 hours online. A friend sent me a photo of this reading list from the Sunday edition of the @chicagosuntimes and asked if these were legit titles, because admittedly, they looked exciting!! Except- many were fake. No such titles exist from Weir, TJR, Min Jin Lee, Alam, Makkai, Everett, Owens, or O’Farrell. In fact- one credited to Brit Bennett is actually written by Fernanda Melchor, and Migrations is Charlotte McConaghy, not Maggie O’Farrell. This caught traction on Bluesky, and authors had a lot to say. We also got a lukewarm response and explanation, and someone called Rachel was incorrectly given credit for exposing it 😅 BUT- all of this to say, support authors. Support real journalism. Support proofreading. Support libraries, and support critical thinking.
