Perhaps this is the greatest decade for heavyweight boxing ever. Even if you don't find it to be the best, I believe a viewing of this timeline will convince you it is certainly top tier and a landmark in all of sports history. The bar was set incredibly high and, in my opinion, has yet to have been match (with the 1990s coming the closest and the 1980s being underrated in its own right). So what's going down in the 1970s? Well, Muhammad Ali was gone and Joe Frazier or Jimmy Ellis were looking to emerge as the new champion. One did emerge, but right after Muhammad Ali returned. The events that would unfold during and after "The Fight" (of the Century) were something you couldn't write up, proving sports write the best stories. The heavyweight championship would see through the rivalries of the "rock/paper/scissors" of heavyweight boxing in Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, and George Foreman. A slew of prestigious contenders would rise to the occasion and ensure it wouldn't be easy for the champion of the time. 1973 (from "The Sunshine Showdown") to 1976 (the aftermath of Ali/Norton 3 and the release of ROCKY) can be considered the best period of heavyweight boxing there ever was (that's right, the Golden Age of the Golden Age). 1978 would see the division return to said heights for one last time before entering what would come to be known as "The Lost Generation". There's FAR TOO MUCH to unpack here in the description, just give the documentary a watch and immerse yourself in the times. A time where heavyweight boxing ruled the world and ran the headlines.
