The character was created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert, and first appeared in Flash Comics #1 in 1940. There have been several individuals who have taken on the mantle of the Flash over the years, but the most well-known and iconic version of the character is Barry Allen. Barry Allen is a forensic scientist who gains superhuman speed after being struck by lightning and exposed to chemicals in his lab. He uses his newfound powers to protect Central City and fight crime as the Flash. Barry Allen made his debut as the Flash in Showcase #4 in 1956 and has been a key member of the Justice League. Other notable individuals who have been the Flash include Jay Garrick, the original Flash from the Golden Age of comics, and Wally West, Barry Allen's sidekick who later took over as the Flash. The Flash is known for his red costume with a lightning bolt symbol and his ability to move at incredible speeds, allowing him to run faster than the speed of light and travel through time. The Flash has appeared in various media adaptations, including television series, animated shows, and films. The popular TV series "The Flash," which premiered in 2014, features Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash. Additionally, Ezra Miller portrays the character in the DC Extended Universe films, including "Justice League" and "The Flash" solo film.
