He tried to marry Wallis Simpson, a divorcee and an America socialite who was deemed unfit to be Queen. Edward refused to give her up and a constitutional crisis brewed which culminated in Edward's abdication after a mere 10 months on the throne and the crowning of his younger brother, George VI, whose daughter, Elizabeth is the current monarch of the United Kingdom.
