Robin Trower LITTLE BIT OF SYMPATHY ("Live") (Chrysalis Records 1976) (Guitar Improv 1)

LP:Live Released:March '76 Recorded:Feb 3, '75 Genre:Blues, rock Label:Chrysalis English guitar legend/hero name Robin Trower(born as Robin Leonard Trower March 9, '45 Catford, North London)in his 1st band the Paramounts in '62-'66 releasing some singles by Sept ‘66.They were a backing band for Sandy Shaw and endorsed by The Rolling Stones.Robin's short lived trio The Jam, then later replacing original guitarist Ray Royer of '60's psychedelic blues rock band Procol Harum(formed by Robin's Westcliff High School peer Gary Brooker who also played in the Paramounts)after the successful debut release of A Whiter Shade of Pale in '67(Robin did not play on the track, but did play on all the other tracks on the LP).Robin putting down his Gibson SG, Gibson Les Paul, Gibson ES models, and Gretsch guitars to start more of a Jimi Hendrix kind of vibe from '71 to present after borrowing Jethro Tull's Martin Barre's Fender Stratocaster during a soundcheck in '71(when Procol Harum was touring with Tull)Robin yelling in the auditorium "That is it!" and never going back to any other guitar of choice. After Hendrix’s death on Sept 18, ‘70 Robin and Procol Harum’s lyricist Keith Reid decided to write a tribute to Jimi.”I thought, ‘Well, to make sure I get it right, I’ll sit down and study some of his albums’,” said Trower. Then it was the “atmosphere” of just a few tracks that nailed him-especially “1983…(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)(“Electric Ladyland” released Oct ‘68)and “The Wind Cries Mary”(released on Jimi Hendrix’s debut “Are You Experienced” May ‘67).”From studying I got inspired,” Trower said.”Song For A Dreamer” released on Robin’s 5th LP with Procol Harum “Broken Barricades” ‘71.Robin Trower was rising from the dust and ashes of Jimi Hendrix and after the hazy Woodstock festival filling arenas up to 15-20,000 in the early ‘70’s with his similar psychedelic rig/sound, playing and trippy song writing ideas and musical direction.Robin Trower consisted of former Scottish bassist/vocalist James Dewar born Oct 12, ‘42 from another '60's blues psychedelic band, Stone The Crows, Reg Isidore who was born in Aruba.Originally Robin Trower's drummer was going to consist of Jethro Tull's drummer Clive Bunker.Robin was in a short lived band called Jude after he split from Procol Harum which consisted of Clive Bunker, bassist James Dewar, and lead singer Frankie Miller. The band never made a single recording and broke up.Robin Trower band toured in the states to support their debut LP(Twice Removed From Yesterday released March '73)in clubs before moving up to arena tours under the Chrysalis record label by the mid '70's and after the commercial success of his 2nd LP Bridge of Sighs(released 4/20/74).Here I am playing the 7 taped tracks picked from this Robin Trower concert to be on the "Live!" LP from a Swedish Broadcasting Corporation program(kind of like the BBC).The LP only featured 7 picked tracks from the concert. The show was recorded during Robin's '75 tour in support to his 3rd LP "For Earth Below" released Feb '75.According to research the "Live" LP was going to be recorded on Feb 2, '75@Stockholms Konserthus as a non-admissions concert, but plans changed.Little Bit Of Sympathy originally released on Bridge of Sighs.I'm playing to this old out of print Chrysalis Records "Live" CD I bought for my collection.Robin Trower noted for using a '73 Fender Stratocaster's maple neck(black, olympic white, sunburst with the fat Hendrix headstocks(most times), couple Marshall 4 x 12 cabinets/100 watt heads, Uni or Deja Vibe, wah(Dunlop in the '70's per 50th anniversary Bridge of Sighs notes.)and custom made volume booster.By the late '70's you can see Trower playing solid color Strats like red, white, or gold with a rosewood board both small or Hendrix fat headstocks. Live@Stockholm Concert Hall Sweden Feb 3, '75 Full Setlist(with notes) 1.Day Of The Eagle(*not on the LP) 2.Bridge Of Sighs(*not on the LP) 3.Gonna Be More Suspicious(*not on the LP) 4.Fine Day(*not on the LP) 5.Lady Love(**track 4 on LP) 6.Daydream(**track 2 on LP) 7.Too Rolling Stoned(**track 1 on LP) 8.I Can´t Wait Much Longer(**track 5 on LP) 9.Alethea(**track 6 on LP) 10.Little Bit Of Sympathy(**track 7 on LP) 11.Confessin' Midnight(*not on the LP) 12.Rock Me Baby(**track 3 on LP) *Possibly 13.The Fool and Me(possibly played at show during the encore as it was featured on the show@"Winterland", San Francisco, CA, a month later on March 15, '75.I could not find the bootleg.)
