We would start again from Khon Kaen Airport as there are daily affordable direct flights to Chiang Mai International Airport. This trip was a multipurpose trip. First it was an anniversary trip back to Chiang Mai to celebrate 2 years of marriage. Second, was to run in the Chiang Mai Marathon. We flew with Air Asia as they have direct flights between Khon Kaen and Chiang Mai and really good prices and good choice of times. Having stayed at 2 amazing Anantara Resorts already on this trip, we chose another Anantara Resort and it happened to be the top rated resort in Thailand by Conde Nast Traveler’s Reader Choice Awards for 2021. Once we arrived at the Anantara Chiang Mai Resort, it was clear why this resort is the best in Thailand as the staff of the property wonderfully delights guests in all aspects of their stay. One of the top marathons in Thailand, the Chiang Mai Marathon takes runners through historic and naturally beautiful landscapes of the city. The race is well managed, with dedicated organizers and volunteers. The aid stations were many and well stocked with water, pocari sweat, fruits and also volunteers to aid runners with cramps with a topical spray. I was most impressed with the number of race photographers along the race course ready to snap pictures. This race has the most race photos to choose from than any marathon I did before.
