Is all the praise and adoration for the New MacBook Pro M1 valid or are we seeing another series of fan boying (or fan girling) for another piece of tech being slightly faster, lighter, and more expensive? 💻 MacBook Pro 13in M1 ( https://geni.us/MBP-M1-512gb - Commission Earned ) Well in this video I am going to dig into the details for video editors, photographers and graphic designers to see if this laptop lives up to the hype. The 2020 MacBook Pro 13 inch M1 is really turning heads with the exact same design as the previous model with the intel i5. (I’m, I’m joking.) I will say that Apple has perfected the design and feel of the MacBook Pro over the past few years. Especially stepping back into the Scissor Switch Keyboard following the disastrous Butterfly Keyboard. However, I will say Apple is REALLY hanging on to their beloved Touchbar, which honestly I don’t think I have met a single person that says they like the touch bar. If you are a touch bar fan comment below and prove me wrong. Let’s talk about what makes the M1 chip SOOO impressive. When comparing laptops, components and the latest tech to say older stuff you have to compare Apples to Apples (all pun intended) to really understand the relevant improvements of the latest gear. Since the new M1 chips have 5nm transistors and the Intel chipped MacBook Pro has 10nm transistors we will in turn see at least a 1.4x increase in performance and efficiency, which is almost exactly what we are seeing. The Intel MacBook Pro reached a Cinebench score of 5014 whereas the new M1 chips scored a 7766, which is actually better than Dennard scaling predicts capturing 1.54x increased performance. Now again back to our comparing Apples to Apples scenario. Is the new M1 chip better, YES. it is unbelievably better. Is it more affordable? Yes! The base model M1 chip is $500 cheaper than the intel when comparing base models. Compared to all of those, the Apple MacBook Pro M1 does not outperform them in real world applications such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and DaVinci Resolve, to name a few The reason being, today where we sit without Apple Silicone Native Apps from the leading creator tools. So the Computer has to use Rosetta to emulate the processes. Right before we get into the performance benchmarks I want to highlight one one thing, the color gamut range and color accuracy of the MacBook Pro 13 inch M1. This laptop can reach 303 nits at full screen brightness and has a Pantone Verified color gamut range of 100% sRGB - 89% Adobe RGB - 100% DCI-P3, all at an average Delta E of 1.18. Very respectable, but I must be honest, I am surprised that it did not snag 100% Adobe RGB. Now there are a lot of people who value DCI-P3 vs Adobe RGB, as they say it is a better range. But I leave that Up to your own research if you want to split hairs. Ok, as promised, let's now get into the benchmarks to see if you should indeed buy the MacBook Pro 13 M1 or perhaps pick one of the other laptops mentioned just a moment ago. In the Photoshop benchmarks the MacBook Pro M1 is sitting almost at the top of my test results chart coming out with a 788 on the Photoshop Benchmark score. Definitely a strong contender if you’re looking for a Photoshop laptop. You can also use this reference if you are considering other design or photography focused software such as Affinity Photo, Sketch, and Figma. Now regarding use cases for this laptop. If you are a graphic designer or photographer there is no question this would be a lightning fast laptop for you. Run Lightroom, Camera Raw and Photoshop all simultaneously and you shouldn’t see a hiccup. Now if you are REALLY wanting to see this laptop take on your full time video editing machine inside of Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, I strongly caution you against this being your pick as of the current circumstances. What I mean by this is Adobe and Blackmagic have not made Apple Silicone native apps, the laptop is running Rosetta. However I have seen other reviews praise Final Cut Pro for its speed and smoothness. If you are thinking 4k video editing with lots of motion graphics, layers, music, effects, etc… then I would go for the 16 in MacBook Pro or one of the others I mentioned earlier. This will currently serve you best in Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. ------ DISCLAIMER: ALL LINKS IN DESCRIPTION ARE AFFILIATE LINKS if you make a purchase through the links provided I will get a small commission but at no extra cost to you, but that is what keeps this channel alive and the helpful content coming your way. 🤘 😊
