24.05.2022 - 9 ft @ 17 sec swell at 202 degrees wrapped into the east-facing side of the southern tip of pulau Sipora producing some of the best, if not THE best waves anyone’s ever documented at Lance’s right A.K.A. HT’s / Hollow Tree's. We were lucky to only have one charter boat in the channel with Red Bull team riders and a handful of land chargers mixed with residents and hotel guests. The waves grew bigger as the sun rose and by 7am people were testing the waters. @barrenjoeymcgroder tied off his small speed boat in the channel and put in a solid 4+ hours of surfing with legendary grace and copious barrel time. He lost his board at one point after he got flogged on the take off and took a massive beating in the impact zone only to retrieve his board and go right back out for more. @izzygomes wasn’t as fortunate when after getting closed out and pounded, her leash snagged on the reef and kept her pinned below scaring the shit out of her. It was only when the leash plug on her board ripped completely out that she was able to make it to surface for breath. @pat067 copped a fair few beatings but one specifically had him suck in some water and choke up a bit. As he started coughing a lot of blood was emptying from his lungs and he wasn’t sure what the fuck was going on. Luckily it didn’t last long and later after coming in he felt completely fine. Well, @maya won the MVP award by going backside on the biggest set of the day and holding on for dear life to get spit out into the channel with a smile most wouldn’t be able to relate to. She holds the Guinness book of world records for biggest wave ridden by a female and she claimed this was the best backhand wave of her life. And our host, @saltedmemoirs the bossman of @htsresort closes out our film with a hell wave on the same set as Maya’s with a scalp-exfoliating spit that sealed the envelope. Everything about this day was truly epic. The swim, the camera I was using, the vibe of fear blended with stoke in the crew, the smiles coming out of barrels, and the stories of the best waves of their lives.
