One day, while picking up trash, they meet Slappy, a mischievous talking puppet, straight out of an unpublished book by R.L. Stine (Jack Black from Jumanji and The Holiday). Hoping to start his own family, Slappy kidnaps Sonny's mother (Wendi McLendon-Covey from Bridesmaids) and brings all his gruesome friends back to life, just in time for Halloween. As the sleepy town gradually swarms with monsters, Sonny, his sister (Madison Iseman from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), Sam and a nice neighbor join forces to save Sonny's mother and thwart Slappy's plan.
